Shiver me timbers! The Third Annual Portland Pirate Festival is set to take place Sept. 20-21 at Cathedral Park. This year’s event features a family activity village with a walk-through Pirate Adventure; the new-and-improved Cannon Battle Show; wandering jugglers; jet boat rides on the Willamette River; storytellers; sword-fighting demonstrations by the rapscallion Pirates of Puget Sound; puppet shows; and general mayhem — as well as two musical stage shows — provided by the B.O.O.M. (Brotherhood of Oceanic Mercenaries) Pirates. On the festival grounds, the Scoundrels’ Court area will offer a scavenger hunt and interactive games, while the Marauders’ Marketplace will brim with treasures to take home.

THROUGH OCT. 31
Get Lost in a MAiZE
Bridgetown MAiZE at the Pumpkin Patch

With autumn in the air, a new corn maze has been unveiled at the Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island. Each year, a unique giant puzzle — dubbed the “MAiZE” — is sculpted into a corn field. This year you’ll see the “Bridgetown MAiZE,” celebrating the city’s bridges, rivers, mountains and love of the outdoors. You can even climb the maze’s new bridges and get a bird’s-eye view from above the corn.

Once you find your way out of the maze, you can take a hayride, check out the giant slide, explore the pumpkin patch or the haunted corn field, or get a bite at the Patio Café. Don’t leave your dog behind — they’re welcome on the farm, too. More info >>

This isn’t your mother’s fashion week, either. Last year was the first all-green, eco-consciously produced show. From lighting to recycled fabric, organic food to transportation partners, this event is dedicated to keeping the planet — not just clothes horses — looking gorgeous. And this year’s show will be just as sustainable. Leading designers from Portland and around the world will be on hand to dazzle audiences with their hip, eco-friendly designs. More info>>
